[Axel had taken time to both get dressed and read the pamphlet before trying to fiddle with the ring he'd been given, thus sparing the citizens of Tanelorn the sight of a tall, lanky redhead in nothing but his boxers. When he does appear on the network, however, he seems reasonably calm as he greets everyone.]

There, think that's got it... Hey there, everyone. The name's Axel. Got it memorized?

Anyway, I've read the pamphlet; seems like an interesting world you've got here. But since I'd rather not waste my time wandering around and possibly getting myself lost, I've got two questions. One, where's this temporary housing for new arrivals that the pamphlet mentions, so I can get myself set up with some? And two, can anybody point me to the headquarters of the Wayfarer's Guild? From what little I got from the pamphlet, it sounds like it's right up my alley.

[The honorific is as instructed, she hopes, though it still feels wrong. Yori holds herself at attention with the respect due a User, even if none of the parallels are quite accurate. Kirsi Madfoot values efficiency. Best to keep this short, even if it came far too late to have much hope of making a good impression. Soundwave's arrival had been a tremendous complication, both the threat and Rinzler's reaction and the necessary plans following. But learning the methods of travel was too urgent to delay any longer.]

Awaiting orders.

[More than a twinge of nerves about that concept. So far she has no evidence to say the Wayfarers would demand more than she is willing to give; no personal experience of what it means to work under their authority, either.]

[Anon's been hanging things on the walls again, only this time the tangle of interconnected notecards and string is a lot less baroque than the last time he posted video of one of his mental maps. It's mostly for background anyway, since he's sitting on the bed in his tiny apartment and looking at the ring's camera very seriously.

It took a while to figure out how to get a text message to play without mucking up the video, all right?]

Hello, Tanelorn.

I'm sure you've heard the rumors about things being weird out in the multiverse.. and even if there wasn't that issue, it seems like the city is running a lot of imports all of a sudden. I don't think it's a coincidence, though. I think something might be happening out there, and I'm sure we've all had our run-ins with the admins here not caring about what happens outside the walls, even when the stuff outside starts to make problems inside.

[It's certainly been the story of Anon's stay here, and it's only been a few weeks since the mass poisoning.]

Since the existing system structure doesn't seem to give a bit about how events in the worlds we encounter affect the system, or offer any sort of protection to those who venture outside... I'm looking for a few individuals interested in perhaps helping to fill the gap. Or donating resources in exchange for services rendered, if you happen to know someone in need of protection out there.

How's the body, then? Lookin' like Tanelorn is still up to her old haunts - an' it took me a year ta find her again, so I'd know. Crossroads, bru. The lady can never resist the crossroads.

Seein' as most of those I knew aren't in residence anymore, I'm guessin' you lot haven't the first clue about me. Name's Danny Archer, an don't let the phaser rifle fool ya. I'm from Earth, circa 21st century.

[ And that Capetown accent might give a few other hints about his origins too. ]

I've been an gone from our girl's arms twice, now. Tanelorn's a beautiful place, nowhere else like her in the multiverse, but man's gotta have his freedom.

[ Flicking the ash off his cigarette, Danny turns serious now. He shakes his head at the camera, and seems like he's trying to say a whole lot more than what's actually in words. ]

I love this place, and don't mind sayin' it. And that's why I went lookin' for her again. Ran, and Kirsi? If you're half as smart as you want this lot ta think you are, let's put the past behind us. There's big doings out on the Dream Roads right now. Even this space station's had problems with parallel worlds crossing over - an' you lot know that's never a good sign.

Something's up. Travelers are goin' missin, an no one's heard from Mu Ooria in way too long. Figured I'd find Bastable here, but no doin' either.

[ Shaking his head, Danny takes another hit off his cigarette. ]

Anyway, there's my good deed for the century. You lot need to start takin' your heads oughta this town an' take a look around sometime. Might see somethin' for a change.

Stars, including the one in our resident solar system here, emit very high amounts of uncontrolled energy, both heat and other potentially damaging frequencies. The atmosphere of a planet works as a shield. We don't have air up here outside the city, except what's protected in the station.

[Yori realizes she's using terms she barely understands herself and waves the complexities aside.]

It's more complicated than that, but this is just to say: don't go outside the barriers without good defense, even if a lack of breathing doesn't worry you.

Some of you probably know all about this, but others in the city may not.

[ See a weirdly skewed view of Ichigo. See Ichigo trying to figure out how these crazy space-forcefields work because he just tried to set his hands against one of the viewing portholes on DS9's Promenade, and ended up with a bit of electric shock for his troubles.

...Now see Ichigo trying to see where, exactly, that forcefield is by slowly extending his fingers toward it. Until it shocks him and he pulls back. ]

No glass. Look at this, there's no freakin' glass! There's nothing there!

[ Hardly nothing, either. The stars are shining just beyond, and Ichigo is quickly distracted by them again. And the sudden ( yet eerily silent ) Wormhole opening and letting a couple of ships ( that look more like specks at this distance ) through, then closing again. ]

...I want to go outside. Anybody got any ideas on how?

[Harry has been keeping to the edge of the city for a while. Between the crazy sleep poison and a long few nights of terrible memories, he's been avoiding people. The fact that a good chunk of people would explode and/or die just by him walking past them kind of contributed to his anti-socialism as well.

But he had found a nice place, a bench on a terraced hill, that faced out towards the literal edge of the city. He'd spent some time here last month, watching fish and who knows what else swim by. It'd been peaceful, if a little bit surreal. But now?

Well, the view had changed.]

And though my soul is set in darkness
I will rise in perfect light
For I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night

What a view, huh? Was getting kind of tired of water all the time.

[A pause. When he's not operating on Sarcasm Mode, its kinda...awkward to talk over a hunk of plastic he barely understands. And what he's about to ask is not only awkward, but a pretty heavy blow to his pride. He's a bit loathe to ask for help.]

So...I know there's all kinds of mages and wizards around here. And from what I see, I seem to be the only one with issues with technology. And its kinda ridiculous to be scared of walking around for fear of shorting out some of the program people by walking around the corner at the wrong time. So..I guess I could use some...help with that?

[The video feed comes to life in a burst of static. Most of the image is dominated by the face of a young woman scrunched up in concentration, and near the edge of the pickup is what looks like a bent up hairpin. Yumi, poking the ring to see what it does is probably not kosher.

The view pans back after a moment when she's done peering closely at the ring's interface, and two more things become immediately apparent. One: she's in the intake infirmary and hasn't budged much past the cot. Two: she's still completely naked. After a beat the video nature of the broadcast registers and she blushes, but there's no big jump toward trying to cover up. Well, the chief did say she'd get used to the naked thing eventually.]

Uh, hi?

If you can hear me, can you tell me what just happened? If this is another planet, does anybody know where Earth is? I kinda need to get back!

Oh! My name is Yumi if you need to call me back. I think that's all you need to call me back.. let's see.

[It had taken a few moments for him to actually use the ring he was given. But in the end the network is treated to a bark of laughter for a moment as the image of a dragon person thing wavers for a moment.]

Maa this is something really new. Like those odd phones that the humans have, and that they keep making more complicated all the time. But that’s not as important. Oi, any other Shikigami or Toujinshi from Ten’ryuu here that can help a lonely Shikigami out? Masaomi isn’t here, because I can’t feel him nearby at all so I don’t think I can fight any of you if you want one.

It’s interesting here, but I have a Toujinshi I have to help still and need to get back to him. Maybe even bring him here so he can try all of these odd new foods. He’d probably get a kick out of different worlds if it’s true. So help in finding him or what needs to be done to unsummon myself here would be nice.

[A grave expression marks Yori as she gazes at her ring, creases of sudden fear and a sharp worry she's trying not to show. Her words come out a fraction rehearsed. It had taken a while to find the right tone to a warning that's terribly sincere without giving away too much herself.]

Greetings, Tanelorn. You may or may not have noticed the recent arrival and broadcast of a large mechanical being who goes by the name of Soundwave.

[Easy to miss one new arrival's call. The battle about to happen if it wasn't already in full swing would be harder to ignore. Yori didn't think frontal assault had much chance of success, but Rinzler had listened to her plea of caution exactly as well as she'd expected. Soundwave was too urgent a threat.]

He's been making attempts to trap and torture my friends for a long time, in another world before any of us came here.

I'm not asking for any assistance. No one should risk themselves without proper warning. Soundwave is the sort to remember opposition for a long time and plot accordingly. There are friends in the city who've fought him already on our behalf. I should be safe enough.

But I do ask for your discretion. Please don't mention me or Rinzler or Anon or any ally of Rinzler to Soundwave. Don't give away our locations on unsecured calls. It won't take Soundwave long to be listening in.

Please--if there's anyone in the city who'd be vulnerable to reprogramming, take care not to let Soundwave find out.

I appreciate your attention. If there are questions, I'll try to answer them the best I can.

[Her smile is small and tense. The call ends with the first faint breath of a sigh.]

[ The video feed clicks on to show...well, a really lovely view of the Post House's courtyard. Some decorative fruit trees, a fountain, a nice open skylight...

...And a gathering crowd of people all looking up - way up - at the camera. A sudden rotating view, and Soundwave's visor shows a targeting lock, then tightening zoom function as he inspects the band that's been added to his primary servo.

Seems innocuous enough. And this isn't the first time that he's found himself transported to a wholly unfamiliar environment. Timing is always terrible, too. Still, Soundwave has learned his lesson from the last time he went missing in action.

So, no panicking and only a mute gesture is broadcast over this new form of communications network. The video still only shows Soundwave as he raises his other wingtip-hand to point a spindly finger toward the skylight. ]

Some directions would be useful.

[Abathur makes an odd little growling, wet sounding cough, and a small tide of mucous comes out of his mouth. It is soon followed by a glowing green sac of liquid, containing a small creature, which wriggles within the orb as it falls gently into one of Abathur's hands.]

Is developing larva. Will soon be independently mobile. Vulnerable. If ever separated from hive complex, return immediately.

[The little creature slowly settles as Abathur carefully brushes the nutrient sac with his rows of pedipalps.]

Necessary strain. More will be produced.

[Compared to her first broadcast, Kirsi is a lot more put together and calm. Sitting at a clean, polished desk, she sits up straight in her chair, her green tunic and sleeves crisply ironed and immaculately clean, as the customary beep-beep-beep alert goes off. Not bothering with an introduction, she jumps right in.]

Firstly, I have been asked to remind you all that there are still requisitions not yet fulfilled. It is first come, first served and while you may sign yourself up for one, there is still a matter of urgency to consider. The longer we wait, the slower the city is in returning to total normal function. Requisitions are a good way to stock your pantries or purchase other necessities through vouchers.

That in mind, it has come to my attention that we have an influx of newcomers, and since many of you do not have upgraded rings, you would have to rely on a Wayfarer to get to and from the planet. Unfortunately, we will be short-staffed for the foreseeable future, and since its vital that as many people have access to the planet as possible, we are announcing a small change in policy.

Any citizen of Tanelorn with suitably upgraded rings may function as an escort of ones who do not have access to the dreampaths. This is a buddy system, the escort will be responsible for their tag along. If either party is unable to return to Tanelorn on their own, you can still send a request for aid, but the time frame for how soon help will arrive will vary significantly. As always, please observe all safety regulations when walking the paths.

[An extremely shaky video window pops up on the network that doesn't seem to be properly aimed at anything just yet--there's a brief flash of flickery green light against a dark, flexible backing of some sort--before it finally settles on a face. Pale complexion, dark gray eyes, disheveled dark hair, looks approximately like he just got rolled down a series of hills in a barrel before coming to an unceremonious halt on the floor beneath an Infirmary bunk.]

H-hello? [He coughs, wincing a bit at the way it sounds--and feels--like he's talking through a throatful of gravel. Let's try that again.] Anybody out there? Or am I just...talking to my jewelry, here?

[Yeah, that video feed is still shaking pretty good. He was running on auxiliary already when he woke up--and the fact that he woke up at all is alarming enough all on its own--never mind that he feels like he's going to lose the rest to an involuntary purge at any minute.]

I, uh, read the readme thing? It makes approximately zero sense, but anyway that's not the important thing. I don't know how I got uploaded into this system but you guys--*cough*--you guys mighta made a glitching huge mistake. I hope your quarantine's up to speed.

1st Mutation - Video

[There is a confused scrabbling of several grey, clawed hands. Whatever has found itself wearing the ring, it doesn't want to be.]

[The video then suddenly approaches a glowing green vertical slit and is instantly enveloped. Deep within, rows of teeth can be seen clicking and scraping against the ring.]

[After a few moments with no progress made, the ring is pulled back out, video quality possibly a little degraded by the slime now covering it]

[The blank, insectoid face with four glowing green eyes is still quite identifiable, however. A large collection of pedipalps surrounding the mouth fidget like an upturned centipede. It seems that the wearer of the ring has just noticed that it is on.]

Queen of Blades. Help. Am lost. Smell terrans. Been banded. Is doing something. Dead technology.

[The mouth vibrates oddly as the words come out in a deep monotone, although it might seem a little strained.]

Swarm gone.

[The video shifts off of the blank face as the hand pulls back, revealing for just a moment the bulbous, luminescent sacs covering the creature's back, the whole thing pressed defensively up against a corner of a room. The view moves wildly about to face away, revealing a long, caterpillar-like body with many thin, knobbly limbs and a dorsal ridge of chitinous plates. There is a clattering as the body springs into motion, knocking over something around it as the creature makes for a large bay door.]

[Movement stops suddenly with a crunch.]

Help.

[Abathur is stuck in place after his aborted attempt to escape the infirmary, and highly distressed.]
